Steve Jobs, dead at 56

Apple’s website as been updated to show just the image above as a memorial to their founder and, until recently, the CEO that took the company from near ruin to its current status as one of the world’s most valuable.

Clicking through on this image gives us the following text:

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

Steve Jobs’ death comes one day after Apple launched their latest product, the iPhone 4S. It is the iPhone, perhaps more than any other of Apple’s products that has come to symbolize the company’s extraordinary rebirth as the most innovative and influential company in the technology sector, and of Steve Jobs’ passion for “magical” devices.

We will be publishing a full dedication to the life of Steven P. Jobs shortly. In the meantime, we join with the people of Apple, his family and the millions of loyal Apple customers in mourning as we say goodbye to one of the greatest visionaries of our time.

What a sad day! The world today is a much better (and more connected)place because of the visionary that was Steve Jobs. May you rest in peace.

I wondered, when I heard of the release of the iPhone 4S, whether Jobs was too ill to be aware and involved, or had passed on, as I sincerely believe he would not have elected to release other than an iPhone 5. It makes one wonder about the future of the company being in jeopardy.

Another tragic story of someone reaching the pinacle only to be slayed by incurable disease. My condolences to the family both personal and professional. Your vision will be missed. RIP

Very sad day. RIP Mr. Jobs. One always suspected that his health was much worse than was let on. Just the fact that Mac was superior to a PC was enough of a legacy. All the rest was the proverbial icing on the cake.

    Vince says:
It is not a fact that Mac was superior to anything. They just do some things differently. All PC’s are superior. Also, all of Apple’s so-called firsts, were really stolen from other companies, including the GUI (Graphical User Interface) and the mouse. Apple are liars, thieves and gougers (of your money). And I have no respect for evil tactics like that. I’ve been involved with computers for 33 years. I’ve seen it all and am not easily brainwashed by lying marketing. Do your own research before spouting the Apple party line.

It is a sad loss for technology in the US and around the world. It is also a reminder of how cancer kills great people and he need to continue and support cancer research here in the USA which is in in serious danger due to severe cut-backs in funding. Fight to save others like Steve who suffer from cancer – lets eliminate this killer of great minds and revolutionaries – tell your politicians to quit messing with cancer research finding and National Institutes of Health funding and increase it to find a cure for people lile Steve!

I do not wish to have a debate over a comment i have seen. Weather you are a C.E.O or a person the street.everyone is a supierior person, some may not have talent the same way as others, but we all have a heart and a brain. You heart and brain sometimes sends mixed singnals, and plays and inportant role in your life. From mental illness to intellegance.we were born with a small brain,It was how it was developted through time, out of love or anger witch led to hatered and misbeleife.I my self am not a computer person.I do not have an apple computer or i phone exc…The one thing i do beleive is loving myself, family and others and helping others learn.I am crazzy because i have too much love in me.So i keep the love to myself. people are positive and people are negative and their are those without confidence or beleife. To sum it up “apple” has not ben my choice of tecnoligy, but my heart is that “Apple’ fruits and vegatables, water and air and plenty of sleep is what keeps a healty mind, body and soul.I feal like an intelegent person, but that can’t be with no education.but yet why do i understand and know so much on what is going on around us. Because i my self am a visual learner,Listener, hands on person. But did not know that most of my life i tought my self through research on the internet. And my memory is clear and has wiped away the negative way of thinking and looking at things in life. Everything fell into place, thanks to My beleife strangers on the street, tecnoligy, gouverment,Doctors, plumbers, teachers, builders exc….exc….
