MotionPlus for the Wii coming June 8
The motion-sensitive controllers that rocketed the Nintendo Wii gaming platform to number 1 position in console sales, are about to get even more sensitive.
If you're a fan of the Nintendo Wii's motion-controlled games that allow you to feel like you're part of the on-screen action, I've got good news. Nintendo Canada just announced the release date for two new products: MotionPlus (pictured above) and Wii Sports Resort.
As you've probably figured out by now, the MotionPlus is an add-on module for your existing Wii-motes. It plugs into the end of the remote, where the nun-chuck controller connects. The module, when used in conjunction with games that have been written to support it, increases the sensitivity of the remote to movement.
How much more sensitive it makes it is still unknown, or at least not known publicly. Nintendo isn't releasing any percentage figures for the MotionPlus, so players will have to make their own assessments as to how much (if at all) game play is improved. The new module is expected to hit store shelves on June 8 across Canada.
Wii Sports Resort, a beach-themed follow-up to the original Sports title that ships with the Wii console, won't debut until July 26 – over a month after MotionPlus modules hit the street.
Nintendo might be betting that that even though a single MotionPlus module ships with every Wii Sports Resort game, you're going to want a second, third or fourth module too.
So if past Wii-craziness is any indicator, you're probably going to have to snap up the modules when they're released, or you won't have enough by the time Sports Resort comes out.
Clever Nintendo… very clever.
